THE CLOVER STAKES AND THE CARTER HANDICAP HANDICAPFEATURES FEATURES OF THE INDEPENDENCE DAY DAYPROGRAM PROGRAM AT AQUEDUCT Independence Day has always been one of the banner days of the Metropolitan turf This year it j will probably ba the greatest and the largest crowd of the year will in all probability today wend its way to the seaside course of Aqueduct there to enjoy the splendid racing arranged by the Queens County Jockey Club The Clover Stakes and the Carter Handicap are provided as tiie principal attractions of the holiday program The Clover Stakes is for twoyearold fillies at liveeighths of a mile and has a guar ¬ anteed value of 3500 The Clover was first run in 1S8S over the Gravesend course and continued there until 1914 when it was transferred to Aqueduct where it lias been decided since A highclass field of the best lillies in training in the east will contest the twentyseventh running of this feature the tabu ¬ lated history of which is here presented contest in keeping with the best traditions of the popular event The Carter Handicap was established in 1885 and run continuously until 190S inclusive It was not run in 1909 nor in 1913 but was revived in 1914 and continued each year since For this years decision the Carter has a guaranteed value of S3500 and with the excep ¬ tionally fast Aqueduct track at its best a new time mark for the
