FRANK VAN NESS HERE FROM FRANCE Saratoga N Y August 0 A visitor who at ¬ tracted much attention during the afternoon and was kept busy shaking hands with numerous old timers was Frank Van Ness who developed the great Morello and raced him with much success Mr Van Ness only arrived this morning from France where he has spent the last sixteen years training for some of the principal owners of that country He brought over eleven horses owned by T 1 Tliorne and eight the property of John Sail ford The horses were twentyseven days en route and were brought to an Atlantic port and later sent by express to Gravesend where they are now lo ¬ cated catedMr Mr Van Ness detailed at length to some of the trainers present conditions in France pertaining to training operations of the thoroughbred Feed stuffs arc particularly scarce in that country oats cannot be had and small allotments of hay and straw are to be secured only on the payment of an exces ¬ sive charge Mr Van Ness will remain here for an indefinite period
