TWOYEAROLD RACES NEXT WINTER J A Murphy Says the New Orleans Programs Will Provide for Them if Eale Is Rescinded St Louis Mo August 22 Joseph A Murphy manager of the racing department of the Business Mens Racing Association of New Orleans an ¬ nounced yesterday that if the rule against racing twoyearolds before April 1 is rescinded in full a twoyearold race a day will be offered at New Orleans commencing January 1 1A A modification of the rule barring horses ia stakes would not appeal to us and we would offer no races under such conditions he said When racing was revived in New Orleans we promised the people of Louisiana that we would cater only to highclass racing Our stakes and purses com ¬ pare favorably with all tracks where tin mutuels are not in use and we could not afford to limit one branch of our racing to horses liredoomed by rule to be selling platers At the request of many horsemen and breeders we tried racing after the rule was passed but the results would not justify us in trying it again againPersonally Personally I think the solution of the twoyear old problem will come eventually by the governing bodies prohibiting twoyearold stakes before August and adding the money now given to them to Unveyearold stakes This would probably make more threeyearolds to run in them It would enable owners to weed out early the yearly crop of morning glories and near greats When a really great one was established by actual tests of racing it would unquestionably be laid away for the rich plums to follow
