RACING STATISTICS STATISTICSof of the Most Successful Meeting of the theSaratoga Saratoga Racing Association What was in many respects the most wonderful meeting in the history of the Saratoga Racing Asso ¬ ciation came to an end Saturday August 31 after twentyseven days of racing during which time 103 races were decided and 289012 distributed in stakes and purses The daily average distribution amounted to 10705 The remarkable achievement of the peerless Roamer in reducing the mile recoiM of 135 made by Salvator twentyseven years ago to 134 was alone sullicient to make this meeting notable and long to be remembered The grand performances of Billy Kelly the champion twoyearold of the year and conceded to be one of the greatest young horses seen in many a year together with the brilliant racing of Johren Sun Briar and others the wonderful time recorded over the marvelotisly reconstructed fast track were other features While the attendance was not up to the standard set last year still the crowds were of generous proportions and on special occasions the beautiful Saratoga course was taxed to its capacity Tlie abundance of highclass horses available for racing was responsible for large fields of wellmatched thoroughbreds and great sport resulted Tlie increased value of the many rich stake events brought together the best horses in training and the beautiful uncertainty of racing which makes it one of tlie most fascinating of sports was strikingly illustrated when the cream of the thoroughbred world met for these rich prizes J W McClelland by virtue of Eternals victory in the Hopeful Stakes on the closing day of the meeting was the leading moneywinning owner of whom the following won 400 or more each eachOwner Owner 1 1McClelland 1st 2d 3d d Amt McClelland J TV 0
