GENERAL NEWS NOTES OF THE DAY The Associated Press dispatches of yesterday say regarding the allies success on the western front frontContinuing Continuing their pressure along the front from Rheims to Ypres the allied forces are pushing back the Germans on virtually Ibis entire 150mile line General Delwneys army is steadily advancing in the direction of Ham which has been completely encircled General Mangins troops are now in sight of Laon having reached positions within ten miles of that city General Bcrthelots soldiers have reached the Aisne on a large front General Hum ¬ berts army is making steady progress and has suc ¬ ceeded in completely removing the German menace from Noyon Australian troops have crossed the River Somme on a wide front to the south of Peronne British troops have captured the towns of St Christ Brie La Mesnil Doingt and Athies and are now advancing to the west of those places British troops today captured Nenve Chapelle and Bussu Field Marshal Halgs forces crossed the Canal du Nord on the whole front except from Havincourt north to the Scarpe The French have obtained a good hold on the northern bank of the Ailette and on the terrain between that river and the Oise They are approaching if they are not actually on the Hindenburg line at St Gobain itself Thomas J Shorty Wilson who has been identi ¬ fied by four persons as the man most likely to have placed the bomb in the Chicago postoffice was revealed as the mentor of William D Big Bill Haywood chief of the I W W It has been estab ¬ lished that Wilson was within twenty feet of the bomb a few minutes before it exploded and that he and a companion barely escaped witli their lives A few minutes before Wilson had been in conference with Haywood Wilson and Haywood went to lunch ¬ eon together after Wilson had been with Haywood off and on all morning Wilson the night before had predicted the explosion
