RICH PLUMS FOR HORSEMEN AT LATONIA In Addition to Stake Offerings Overnight Purses Will Eange in Value from 1COO to 2000 2000Louisville Louisville Ky September 28 With the closing of the Douglas Park meeting this afternoon John Hachmeister to whose progressive policies the present prominence of Douglas Park and Latonia ii the Ameiican racing fabric is largely due will turn his undivided attention to preparations for the Latonia fall season of racing which is scheduled to occupy the twentyone days from Thursday Oc tobvr lit to Saturday November 2 on which latter late the curtain will fall on Kentucky racing for this year There is every reason for believing that the latonia meeting is destined to set new records for fall racing in the west and the management will devote itself during tile time intervening to ar ¬ rangements for the successful launching of the meeting at the fovington track trackRacing Racing Secretary J B Campbell has virtually completed the compilation of the program hook for the first half of the Latonia meeting It is a most interesting book from the horsemans stand ¬ point It will provide overnight purses of a value never surpassed in America In harmony with the ideas of former Senator Camden and bis associates on the Kentucky State Uacing Commission under whose wise supervision racing has grown to be the most popular of all outdoor sports in tills state the book will provide more liberally for the highclass horses which would have IKCII impossible had the plan of uniform purses with a minimum of 1200 been followed followedInder Inder tin arrangement one or more feature races of great attraction will be provided for every day of the Latonia meeting It is undeniable that pub ¬ lic interest in racing is stimulated by such features as Manager Haclimeister is planning to put on at Latonia day after day Routine racing may satisfy the regular follower of the sport and the profes ¬ sional horsemen but the general public on whom the prosperity of the sport depends demands some ¬ thing out of the ordinary whether it is racing or any other amusement that is invplved if their in ¬ terest is to be sustained sustainedRACING RACING OF HIGHEST CLASS EXPECTED EXPECTEDIn In making an equitable division of the Latonia prize money Manager Hachmeister wilL not offer any purse of less than 1000 There will be n few of these for tho cheapest sort of horses and from that figure the overnight purses will range up to the new valne of 2000 Purses of 1500 will be numerous Inversely thus the public may expect racing of the highest class as a natural result of the prodigality of the purse distribution The man ¬ agement is hopeful that the owners of good horses will do their part toward obtaining the desired results by coming forward with entries in suf ¬ ficient numbers to fill the feature racef In a satisfactory way The management needs the co oparation of the horsemen to make racing in Ken ¬ tucky more popular and successful Racing Secretary Campbell has not yet fully de ¬ cided the details of the conditions for the 2000 Gibson Hotel Special and the Sinton Hotel Special of equal value which two valuable overnight races will Ix run on the two Ladies days of the meeting Wednesday October 10 and Wednesday October 23 The first is for twoyearolds and the second for the threeyearolds and over division The dis ¬ tances and other conditions remain to be settled and Manager Ilachmeister invites the horsemen in ¬ terested in these two races to present their ideas to Secretary Campbell as to what may be desirable in connection with the framing of the conditions conditionsManager Manager Haclimeister has wisely decided that the opening race shall be run at 145 oclock each afternoon during the coming Latonia meeting Under this arrangement it is hoped to complete the pro ¬ gram by 413 or 430 oclock each day
