NEW YORK FALL RACING IS POPULAR Patronage Extended Aqueduct Beyond Expectations and Shows Autumn Sport Wanted New York October 3 It was not generally be ¬ lieved that tlie extended fall race meetings in this locality would meet with the success the managers of the several associations anticipated Contrary to these expectations the Aqueduct meeting which ended Saturday w is far better than the meeting held at that track last autumn which was a joint af ¬ fair Jamaica and Empire City taking one third each of the profits or losses This year each of these associations have been allotted dates It datesIt is doubtful if the attendance as a whole was much better in the spring than it has Iwen this fall On holidays the stands were packed just as they were at the opening of the season and Presi ¬ dent Shevlin is well satisfied with the gate re ¬ ceipts ceiptsWe We thought that with opposition at Havre de Grace there would be a shortage of horses but such has not been the case with us In the cheaper races there was always an overflow of racing ma ¬ terial willing to race The stakes were not par ¬ ticularly well filled though there were always suf ¬ ficient starters to create good contests We were a bit short on jumper hut even with the small fields we had good contests In fact the meeting was a successful one from every angle and I hope the same condition will exist at both Jamaica unl Empire City CityNew New York wants autumn racing That has been demonstrated Interest in racing is more pronounced every day and what racing folk will do in tiie Liberty Loan drive can only be surmised but it will be plenty when the returns are all in Racing has done much for the Ked Cross Liberty Loan drives and other charities and it will do much more as opportunities present themselves
