TRAINER WALTER JENNINGS TO RETIRE RETIREXew Xew York October 11 Stories to the effect that A K Maeomber had decided to quit the turf for tlie duration of the war are not in line with the Cali ¬ fornia sportsmans intentions It is true that he plans to reduce his participation in the sport but he is not going to quit by any means The one sure thing aliout tlie whole proposition is that Walter Jennings trainer for Mr Maeomber is to retire from that endeavor and will go into the real estate business at Oakland Cal where he makes his home homeAt At the close of the season Jennings will select those horsos which Mr Maeomber will retain for racing next year and they will be turned out on a farm A good many horses will l e sold and others will remain on Mr Macombers stock farm in Cali ¬ fornia Mr Jennings got word yesterday from Kentucky that two carloads of Mr Macombers horses had been shipped to the coast and that a similar consignment would follow in a few days daysIn In place of Mr Jennings as trainer of the racing string next year Mr Maeomber has obtained Thomas Murphy a veteran of wide experience Mr Murphy trained for the late Herman B Duryea Among the Murphytrained winners was Durbar II which took tin Derby at Epsom in 1SU4
