RECOGNITION FOR THE THOROUGHBRED State and Federal Authorities Awakening to Reliza tion of Its Breeding Value ValueNew New York November 2 The fact that the Fed ¬ eral Government and the New York State Con ¬ stabulary have nominated stallions in the class for clean bred sires suitable to improve the general purpose horse type of the country at the coming exhibition of the National Horse Show Association is significant It indicates an awakening on the part of state aud federal authorities to a realization of the prepotency of the thoroughbred and their utilization of this quality along the same lines ivhich have made the breeding of the general pur ¬ pose horse type a science in continental Europe EuropeIt It took some time to arouse those in authority in Washington to a sense of the danger which threat ¬ ened in the way of a cavalry horse shortage but then is every indication today that the work of breeding remounts will from now on be prosecuted with vigor The best horsemen in the War and Agricultural Departments have been intrusted will the work and if the appropriations for the exploita ¬ tion of the ambitious plans which have been pre ¬ pared arc forthcoming all will be well Stallions of the right type have Itecn donated by the Breeding Bureau of the Jockey Club and by various breeders and sportsmen Still others have been bought by the esi erts of the Ilcniotiut Department and many of them are already at the breeding stations in Oklahoma Montana and Virginia VirginiaADAKS ADAKS EXPRESS FINE SPECIMEN There are many fine horses among them spine 4of Knglish and American lineage many of pure Ameri ¬ can and occasionally a horse of French and Ameri ¬ can blood Of the latter unquestionably thes finest specimen Us Jhc chesftrut horse Adams Jisprejjrfj which Is the ioveriiinents caudidaitffor the Garden how Tlils JujrsV now ten years old is by Adam i son of Flying Fox This is as rich blood as Krance can boast of and it blended perfectly with the Lexington GIcnco strain which came through Frwlerica a daughter of Frederick the Great a horse which was for some years in the Astor Stud it llhinebeck Frederica had thrown a good indi ¬ vidual in Barleythorpe when mated with the Kng lisfi sire Woolsthorpe but Adams Kxpress is a tre ¬ mendous improvement on any of Fredericks other foals and we who want to see the perfection ol sire for the production of general purpose horse type should inspect the regal chestnut at the Ganlen F Ambrose Clark Major Kolnrt Strawbridge and Capt n A Koy of the French High Commission who in pcctcd him for the Government say he is a model for the purpose and that he is the best horse se nred to date dateIt It was a surprise when Mr Ilallenbeck consented to donate Adams Kxpress as it was Klieved that he would want to keep him at the head of his Mealowbrook Stud in New Jersey JerseyGLAD GLAD TO AID GOVERNMENT GOVERNMENTThe The Government wanted him said he a few days ago and that settled the matter for me I know that the horse will make good and Im glad I had my chalice to do my part in furnishing the cavalry of the future with a better type of remount I made the donation through the Breeding Bureau itf the Jockey Club because I believe that the work which has liccu done by that organization is re ¬ sponsible for the preservation of racing not only iu his state but throughout the country countryOyanm Oyanm the stallion which will represent the State Constabulary is an older horse than Adams Kxpress but he too is a good individual He is i combination of American Knglish and Australian blood being by Commando a son of the American Domino while his dam Kmiiia C was by the Australian Darebin On his dams side he is purely English his mother Ben My Chree which is also the dam of Cap and Bells being by Galopin Oyama as a fast horse and he has the size and bone for which his family are noted Like most thorough ¬ bred sires his disposition is of the best and the hoys of Troop K which is in barracks at White Ihiius are quite proud of him aud believe that he will give them some fine mounts as a result of the ma tings with their western mares
