FOUR MORE DAYS OF KENTUCKY RACING RACINGLatcnia Latcnia Meeting Will Come to a Close with a Special Thanksgiving Day Program ProgramCincinnati Cincinnati O November 23 Four days remain of the Kentucky nicing season of 1918 On Thursday the abbreviated fall meeting of the Latonia Jockey Club will come to a close and the curtain will fall on racing for the season All things con ¬ sidered tiie Latonia meeting may be classed as a remarkable tribute to the popularity of the great outdoor sport of racing in this locality Throughout the week just ended it has had to contend with inclement weather and track conditions that have kept many of the better class of horses from par ¬ ticipating in the racing Yet the patronage has been of satisfying proimrtions at all times timesWhen When the influenza epidemic interposed an in ¬ surmountable obstacle to the opening of the meet ¬ ing nt tlie allotted time Manager Hachmeister de ¬ termined that as a matter of policy in keeping faith with the horsemen the valuable stakes which had been announced as a vital part of the fall racing at Latnnia should be run off when it was oossible to open the meeting In carrying this policy into effect Manager Hachmeister found it necessary to compress the stake program originally intended for a meeting of twentyone days dura ¬ tion into the ten days for which the meeting was announced when it became possible to proceed with the racing a month later than originally scheduled It is unfortunate that this arrangement necessi ¬ tated the running of several of tlie most valuable 2vents under adverse conditions during the week just closed Hut the program lias been courage insly carried out and furthermore there have been two increases in the values of the overnight purse distribution beganThe since the meeting began The stake program having been fully completed with the running of the Latonia Cup and Gibson Hotel Special this afternoon the racing of the four remaining days will be strictly of the overnight variety with important feature races scheduled for each di y culminating in the running of the Thanksgiving Handicap of 2000 added oil tlie final lay This will be a race at one mile and one sixteenth for horses of all ages and is expected to bring the pick of the good twoyearolds in tRiin ing at the track into competition with the stars of the older handicap division A tremendous holi ¬ day crowd is looked for to mark the closing of the reason on Thursday and Itacing Secretary J B Campbell is exerting himself to provide a card that will be in keeping with Uie inippctajiceot U P occasion L The track which has b en inmldy all week lias started to dry out and if no more rain falls it will be in fair condition for the concluding days of the meeting
