BIG CROWD SEES RACING AT PINEHURST PIXEIIURST X C December 21 The annual fall steeplechase anil flat races held under the auspices of the Pinehurst Jockey Club Thursday attracted one of the largest assemblages that has ever attended a race meeting at Pinehurst PinehurstThe The steeplechase was won by Melos entered by George U Mbbs of Calgary and ridden by Wells Nat Hurd s Little Horn with Diamond up came up from fourth place at the last hurdle and finished second Abdon entered by Hayden Preston of Prov ¬ idence led by a good margin for the first mile but was liassed in turn by Melos and Little Horn and finished third thirdHayden Hayden Prestons Uncle Sam with Burns up took the fiveeighths nice while Front Royal Avon the mile and an eighth feature dash Xat dashXat Hurd had more or less of a monopoly in the guests race four and a half furlongs He rode the winner Parish s Genevieve took second money with Kinder Lou ridden by his friend Lieut J P McKinuey of Pittsburgh and annexed the third money with Half Measure ridden by Hurds nephew Lambert Splane
