VANDERBILTS EPSOM DERBY HORSE I have bought dams of great winners that were to be for trifling sums on many occasions Rosa ¬ line the dam of Rosedrop for twentyfive guineas being the cheapest though closely pressed by Low ¬ land Aggie dam of Lomond for thirtyfive guineas These records will however be cut should Dukes Derby horse McKinley win for his dam Mrs Despard was absolutely acquired by me for noth ¬ ing In other words she was presented to me by Sir John Thursby She was sold by me for 350 guineas to the astute Martin Gurry after I had bred Zori de A from her and he sold her for 800 guineas to go to France with a colt foal by Col ¬ lar at foot Since then she has produced this re ¬ puted Derby horse McKinley by Macdonald She is by Isinglass Crl de Guerre by McMahon her dam Wild Notes by AArild Oats and it will be seen atpnce that she has plenty of Herod blood closo up The Macaroni blood of Lily Agnes nicked well when she was mated with Collar and it may also have nicked with Macdonald whose sire Bay Ronald had a close line of Macaroni through Mavis dam of Galliard However it is to my mind improbable that McKinley or anything else will bent The Panther for the Derby should Sir Alec Blacks colt go on all right and strip fit and well at Epsom W Allison in London Sports ¬ man
