GRAND MARYLAND SEASON IN PROSPECT Plenty Racing Material of High Class Available and Ready for Approaching Meetings BALTIMORE Md March 30 Some six or seven hundred thoroughbreds are assembled in southern Maryland at Bowie about Benning at Laurel and at Pimlico and the Gentlemens Driving Park and from these several colonies racing secretary Joseph McLennan will draw his fields for the Prince George Park races of next week and the week following during the inaugural meeting for the east of the season of 1919 The Prince George Park meeting will be conducted by the Southern Mary ¬ land Agricultural Association and it will run from the first through the fifteenth of April AprilA A season that promises well east anil west the season of 1919 bids fair to be epochal in Maryland racing It will be marked by the running of good programs at Bowie and Havre do Grace iu April and the distribution at Pimlico in May of some such sum as 144000 in stakes and purses No more attractive program than the Maryland Jockey Club has advertised for the Pimlico May meeting could have been arranged The culminating feature of the meeting and of Maryland spring racing will be the renewal of the Preakness which this year will have 25000 added The gross value of the Preakness a race of one Inile and an eighth for threeyearold colts and fillies geldings will be barred will be about 30000 for it is practically a certainty now that ten or more horses will start and each of these will be required to pay a fee of 500 500The The other features of this great meeting will be the renewals of the 5000 Green Spring Valley Steeplechase the 5000 Pimlico Spring Handicap the inaugural running of the 5000 Pimlico Oaks a race of one mile and a sixteenth exclusively for threeyearold fillies and the renewals of the 3000 Pimlico Spring Juvenile and the 2000 Pim ¬ lico Nursery The Maryland Jockey Club will offer no purse of smaller value in added money than 1000 and there will be at least one steeple ¬ chase every day dayWith With purses at Bowie and Havre de Grace wised in proportion to the Pimlico advances some of tin best performers of all ages and kinds of the strong ¬ est eastern stables will take part in the Southern Maryland and Harford meetlngs The track at Bowie and the trick at Havre de Grace will be the scene of the preliminary racing of the horses that are to take part in the great Pimlico specials And tlnnks t nn exceptionally mild winter and spring racers of various ages of the great eastern stables are pretty much all roady for the colors Whether they wintered in Maryland or in Jersey or in Pennsylvania or on Long Island they have had plenty of outdoor work The winter track performers which in ordinary years come this way from New Orleans and Havana and clean up at Bowie and Havre de Grace will get little nourishment this spring They will be called on to tackle horses in fine fettle after a good winters rest
