TRAINING GOSSIP FROM THE EAST NEW YORK X Y April 19 The expected did not happen at Belmont Park this morning owing to the slow condition of the track for Sam Hildreth did not work his two Derby candidates Purchase and Cirrus fast He had them out early and would probably have sent them fast had the track been in decent condition but it was slow and uncer ¬ tain However Hildreth sent them off on a slow gallop for a mile and an eighth the first mile of which was covered in 140 and the mile and an eighth in 204 204Later Later in the morning the track improved and Sandy McXaughton sent Omar Khayyam a mile in 147 with his rider Kuminer having a hard hold on him throughout He is proclaimed to be a much better horse this year than he was last autumn autumnAbout About noontime trainer William Hogan brought out his Derby candidate Dunboyne The colts owner P A Clark and Mrs Clark Avere present to watch the work Along with Merry Princess and Lion dOr as companions Dunboyno was given a five eighths gallop the first quarter being run in 1M the half in 4 and the fiveeighths in l0l The final eighth was fast considering the condi ¬ tion of the track and the colt simply galloped away from his stablemates when Ensor who had the mount was ordered to send him along alongShould Should tin1 weather keep fine practically every horse in training will be sent along next week weekTrack Track superintendent Ielz has intimated that the main track at Belmont Park will IMJ open for train ¬ ing purposes in the near future probably about next Thursday or Friday
