NEW ORLEANS RACE TRACK WORK WORKXEW XEW ORLEAXS La June 3 If plans of the new board of directors of the Business Mens Rac ¬ ing Association materialize there will be sweeping changes at the Fair Grounds for next winters rac ¬ ing season Already work has been started on improvement of the race course proper and the grounds and hundreds of loads of oyster shells cinders and river sand have been hauled into the track trackBut But the chief move of all is the proposed re ¬ moval of the big City Park race track grand stand from its present location to the Fair Grounds and not only install it as a pennament grand stand at the historic old race course but locate it at a point exactlv opposite the present temporary stand and thereby change the entire outlook of the Louis ¬ iana Jockey Clubs track trackIt It is planned if there is no hitch in obtaining the permission of J W Gardiner and T S Wood ring mortgage holders to remove the stand and then to obtain consent of the City Park Commission to move the structure to a point about the center of the backstretch It would occupy the same rela ¬ tive position oil the backstretch as the old stand did on the homestretch and of course the back stretch then would become the finishing point pointAccording According to present plans more than 100000 will be spent moving the City Park grandstand building stables and other buildings putting in a complete drainage system repairing the track and improving the grounds in general generalWork Work has already started on the track and on the roads inside of the grounds All the bad spots will be dug out to a depth of two feet or more a sub ¬ stantial shell foundation will be put in good river sand will be filled in after which the entire track will foe resurfaced with selected river sand and allowed to set during the late Hummer and fall It is expected the Fair Grounds will improve ill speed next winter winterThe The City Park grandstand is in excellent condi ¬ tion As a matter of fact its flooring and roof are toe only parts which liave deteriorated
