ENGLISH BROOD MARE SELLS FOR 3,000 PIMLICO, Md., November C. Previous to the races this afternoon several yearlings, the property of the Knockador Stud in Ireland, were offered at auction. Only two were sold, the chestnut colt by Coreyra Purple Light, which went to C. li. Garrison for ,700 and the chestnut colt by Corcyra Stray "Moments, which was purchased by W. M. Grant for 50. C. E. Clement disposed of the English brood mare Merriment IL, by Sundridge Marian Hood, at the sale. The mare is in foal to Transvaal and elicited spirited bidding. P. T. Chinn, Capt. P. M. Walker, Max Hirseh and Alfred IL Morris were the contenders. Max Hirsch carried her to 2,600, and when Mr. Morris raised the bid to 3,000 he secured her. Mr. Morris, who has always shown himself to be every inch a sportsman and a lover of the horse, was so well pleased with his purchase that he accompanied the groom who had charge of the mare across the infield to the Morris stable, which located on the backstretch. . ; t r - 2 1 f 1 1 f e t e is s
