MONEY WINNING FIVE-YEAR-OLDS MIDWAY THE LEADER, AND HIS SIRE BALLOT HAS FOUR MORE IN THE LIST Of THIRTY CHIEF WINNERS IN THE CAMPAIGN OF LAST YEAR Although Midway won but throe races out of thirteen at tempts, they were of high value find sufficed to give him fir-t place in the list of thirty best money winning tivo -year-side of 1919. In the order of their winning they were the Chirk Handicap at Churchill Downs, Kentucky Handicap at the same track and the LonJsviBe Cap, another Churchill Downs triumph. Bat Midway was not the best race horse in the livc-year-old class. That honor belonged to Cudgel. This great horse was as good as ever he was when at his best, but ho was not always in that condition, hence fell off in money won and finished third to Midway and Naturalist. An illustration of what he could still do when fooling on good terms with himself was afforded in the running of the Merchant* and Citizen-, Handicap at Saratoga, when, taking tip 132 pound-, he ran its first mile in 1:37-.-, and its distance of a mile and three-sixteenths in 1:37%, defeating Star Master. Exterminator, Ban Briar anil Polka Hot with ease. The Flench gelding. Naturalist, is a horse of wonderful speed and weight carrying ability, but is a horse of mood- which could not alway-be relied upon to do his best. Still ho ran straight enough on occasions to earn second place in money won. Courtship, another Preach horse and a last one at times, was fortunate enoagh to include the valuable Bnqnirer Handicap at I.atonia in his li-t of five races won and thereby led a much better race horse, Star Master, in total money won. Star Master, next to Sir Harton. was Star Shoots best son in racing and a downright good one. although not altogether fortunate in that he was always competing witii the best handicap horses of the year. Fairy Wand, exceedingly fast, but cursed with a vile temper; Iick-wick. Onrry Herrmann* best sou, and O/oodtraa, a high-class selling plater, were the other winners of 0,000. Other excellent livo-youf-olds which won less wore Corn Tassel. I.uford. Valor. Breeze. Trusty. Kilts II.. Mints II. sad Tom McTgggnrt. Of these Trusty won more races than any other horse of tlio year. It speaks well for the lusting quality of Ballots progeny that he had live representatives in the ii-t of thirty best money-winning live ear-old-, that li-t being as follow-: Hot-so Col. and Kox.
