NEW YORK MORSES ARE BACKWARD New Rule Forbidding Use of Calks Not Popular with the Trainers NEW YOIJIC N Y March 15 Trainers are still confined to shed work for their horses at Pelmont Park Conditions will 1 about the same for a week or more according to reports Superin ¬ tendent Pelz is using every effort to get the train ¬ ing track into order and it is just possible it will be ready by Saturday next Several of the trainers are now using the small covered track connected with the Macomber stable Notably William Kar rick who has the Coo and Oneck stables It is estimated that every horse at Itelmont Park and Cravesend is at least a month behind in early preparation preparationIt It is probable that the horses belonging to the late Wilfred Viau who died recently in Paris will he raced by his widow Mrs Louise Viau Sandy McNanghton who lias charge of the stable has made entries in unclosed stakes in the name of Mrs Viau by her orders C Kiimmer who is under contract to Mr and Mrs Viau will ride them themWilliam William Carth has shipped all his own horses and those belonging to apt Ital Parr to the Pimlico track where they will be given the finishing touches for the spring campaign campaignThe The new rule passed by The Jockey Club eliminat ¬ ing calks from racing plates is not meeting with general approval among trainers hereabouts They offer as grounds for their objection ihe fact that horses on American courses cannot race creditably in heavy or sloppy going willi smooth plates Sandy McXanghton predicts that accidents by falling will occur through the noncalking of dates when the footing is bad
