EXPECT R PARRS DERBY HORSES SOON Blazes and Paul Jones Coming West Shortly Williams Bros Horses Arrive from Havana LOIMSVILLK Ky March I Sterling C C Van Meters Kentucky Derby candidate furnished a surprise for the work watchers at Churchill Downs Sunday morning when he ran fiveeighths in 105 f in muddy going The colt started with Angon which R H Anderson named for the big race but he soon had him outdistanced and he was not haVd urged either This was the best trial of any of the Derby prospects here thus far for this spring and it was all the more impressive because of the adverse track conditions conditionsItlazes Itlazes winner of the Rrecders Futurity at Icxington last year and one of the hopes of Ral Parr in the Kentucky Derby will soon be headed this way Track superintendent Tom Yonug today received a letter from William Garth requesting stable room for ten horses and assuring him that the son of Vrack Rlaziiig Star will be in the con ¬ signment Paul Jones another Derby eligible is in the Parr string also alsoAn An application for quarters for fifteen horses was received from John F Schorr for the K R McLean horses which wintered at Renning and another from W II Karrick who will bring four here These stables will be assigned room at Churchill Downs Present indications point to more easterners than ever participating in the sport here ami at Iexingtou this spring springJefferson Jefferson Livingston spout Sunday here looking over the twentyfive horses in his stable at Doug ¬ las Park under the care of trainer George Odom Most of these thoroughbreds were on the ailing list in some manner or another last autumn when they wint Into winter quarters at the Rcechinout track but with few exceptions they will all be ready for their best efforts this spring An east ¬ ern campaign is being mapped out for them at the wiudup of the Downs meeting meetingP P J Williams got in from Havana with eight horses six of which will be sent on to their own ¬ ers ranch in Oklahoma The division of the Wil ¬ liams Rrothers stable that will participate in the Lexington meeting will be taken there by R D Williams WilliamsJ J W Johnson again is training the J J Kean horses which consist chiefly of twoyearolds Johnson took them to New Orleans last winter anil later turned them over to AV A liurttschell who raced them until the end of the Crescent City meeting
