raciiis plant was taxed to capacity today when an unusually big Saturday crowd was present to witness the running off of a high class program The going had dried out perceptibly over night and while it was still soft in spots fair time was made in the majority of the races and mud runners had none the best of it itA A handicap at five and a half furlongs for three yearolds and over served as the feature and it brought out some speedy horses The winner proved to be Arrah Co On which racingback to his previous effort behind War Mask took the lead on the stretch turn and held sway easily to the end The winner was confidently supported in the muluels Arrowhead took second place and Mid ¬ night Sun making his first start of the vear was third thirdNew New Orleans horses were again much in evidence they accounting for the majority of the races racesriitribiis riitribiis the handsome son of Iluvious which raced well in the Crescent City was an easy winner of the twoyearold race over what was perhaps the best band that has faced the barrier this year among the twoyearolds He was sent into the lead shortly after the start and easily hcldhis oilpoiuinisoia ft Madeline I lliin finishing fast after being fairly prominent in the early rnnning outlasted Mogeus for place honors The latter was in rather close quarters on the inner rail all through the last threeeighths of a mile ISaby Crand Omor K and Repeat all of whom had shown good form at New Orleans were never serious factors factorsA A C Itlakeley saddled the winner in the second race in T II Cross The Archer which running forwardly from the start withstood the stretch challenge of Tattle and drew clear at the end Tattle was a warm favorite and but for a slow start might have won As it was lie closed a big gap and threatened seriously entering the stretch but tired in the final strides Dr Hall ran well for his first appearance under colors this year and was close up to the leader until passing the far turn where he swerved to the outside and then finished gamely under punishment Knrioo Caruso displayed a good turn of speed for a half mile then quit quitAfter After being well supported Franklin racing to liis best form took the third race by a narrow margin over Pibroch the old Jim Caffnoy gelding wearing the latter down in the closing strides Jockey i Fa tor astride Ioachor sustained a bad look ¬ ing fall when that racer stumbled at the fat turn dismounting the lad He afterward proved to be uninjured however and was able to ride the remainder of his mounts for the afternoon afternoonTANTALUS TANTALUS VICTORY POPULAR POPULARA A 5 Itlakeley scored a double win when Tan ¬ talus the popular choice amidst tremendous ap ¬ plause scored in the fifth race over Dorcas anil Cain de Cause Tantalus was away flatfooled but making up ground by degrees overhauled the leader at the quarter post and held sway to the end Dorcas held on gamely and was easily sec ¬ ond bist Cain de Cause which ran prominently throughout was best of the others othersNapthalins Napthalins racing back to his former good ef ¬ fort had no trouble annexing the purse in the sixth race Iilseii the early pacemaker after
