LORRAINES KENTUCKY OAKS Takes Lead in Stretch Racing and Wins Comfortably Truly Rural Second and Dresden DresdenThird Third American Ace Runs Runsa a Good Race LOUISVILLE Ky May 19 After beinc unde ¬ cided for some time with respect to starting Ior raiiie in the Kentucky Oaks because it was thought the muddy going would operate against her for mei Senator Johnson N Camdeu reluctantly gave the word to trainer J C Milam to send her to the post The decision was a sound one for Lor riine clearly proved her title 10 queen of the west rrn division of fillies by winning in good style from Tinly Rural carrying the silks of Harry Payne Whitney Dresden finishing third after a stormy tree with Mile Dazie heading the others The stke had a net value of S 470 to the winner Senator Camden was highly elated with the fillys siowing for good filly that he regarded her he was somewhat dubious as to the wisdom of letting her start on the difficult track trackThreatening Threatening weather and occasional light show ¬ ers were again the order at Churchill Downs this afternoon but it did not prevent an immense at ttrdanee being on hand Despite the heavy track some of the finishes were hard fought with some of the results in doubt until the last stride Jockey M Garner who has taken a wonderful brace in his rTing this spring was decidedly prominent during the afternoon and his skill was responsible for American Ace ISeaverkill and Iond winning in their respective races On Itenverkiil he rode a partic ¬ ularly brilliant finish gaining the victory after his mount was seemingly beaten S Wida astride Pictor was his victim in this instance In the succeeding dash with the nonstaying Iond lie nursed him just long enough to beat Corydou by a head The latter would have won under il stronger ride With American Ace he had to exert his best skill to make him last it out to lead Angou home homeHackers Hackers of favorites experienced their worst day cf the meeting as choices were downed in every instance after the opening race raceIncle Incle Volo and Smoke Screen indulged in a bump ¬ ing match for a brief period in the stretch until finally Smoke Screen swerved out as a result of being struck by Pool rider of Uncle Velo The rider disclaimed having strucK the horso intention ¬ ally and tht stewards gave him the benefit of the dcubt dcubtRegarded Regarded as heretofore as not being partial to muddy Jioiug American Ace is now showing supe ¬ rior ability in that sort of going and has won his kst two starts over a muddy track trackJockey Jockey Connelly had a narrow escape from injury when he was unseated as a result of All Right Sir stumbling when the start for the third race was effected The Miner strip of th track was particu ¬ larly deep and was responsible for several of the strters stumbling stumblingThe The horses of W C Weant departed this after ¬ noon for Toronto They will e raced in Canada for the remainder of the season seasonMrs Mrs Dick Dwycr sent a telegram here this after ¬ noon advising of the death of her husband last Tl ursday The fund that was started yesterday for the benefit of Mrs Dwyer and her three children frrnd general favor among the Inrf colony and they responded liberally Charles F Price who is serv ¬ ing as stewanl at all Kentucky tracks has con ¬ sented to act as custodian of the fund and those of Dick Dwyers friends in other parts who desirts t subscribe to the fund can send checks or money to him direct care of the Churchill Downs track trackGovernor Governor Edwin P Morrow was among the vis ¬ itors at the track this afternoon anil enjoyed the
