CAMPAIGN PLANS FOR MAN 0 WAR Will Try Conclusions With ths Handicap Division in the Autmin NKW YOKIC X V May I1 How does it feel to own as good a horse as Man o War said S I Kiddle when the question was asked him at Ja ¬ maica yesterday Fine only I dont believe I would want many more like him strange as that may sound He is too much responsibility I have always tried to regard him as though he was just an ordinary horse but my friends and the public at large to say nothing of iiy own people wont let me do it Fverybody wanted to know how he wjs wintering and if he would be ready for his f lgageinents and those that w re nearest the horse were on their toes constantly for fear something wiuld happen to prevent his being able to show tin speed and stamina we all felt he possessed Xow that ho has won the Preakness we are all breathing easy and the future barring accidents serins serene sereneWe We carefully planned a campaign continued Mr Kiddle to give the colt every chance We liidnt give him a race prior to the Preakness though all my friends advised it because we didnt want to run any risk of anything preventing his going to the post for the big Ialtimore event We had confidence that Iiuis Fenstel could bring him to the post ready for that event without a pub 1e appearance and he did it superbly With that race won Mini o War will make his next ap ¬ pearance in the Withers Stakes and after that he v ill go for tho Helmont and so on through the sea ¬ son until the autumn when if all is well he will try conclusions with the older horses in the handi ¬ caps This over we plan to give him every chance to show that he is the sort of colt we think he is isHave Have we measured him Yes He stands hiiids and weighed an even 1100 pounds before leaving the farm His girth at that time was 72 inches and I dont believe he has gone back any since as he 1as appeared to thrive on his work workThe The colts feet and legs look as if they would stand any campaign Mr Inge the assistant to Professor Adams of the University of Pennsylvania and noted expert on the foot of the horse who looked over our thoroughbreds last fall said that Man o War had the most perfect feet he had ever si en We pay a lot of attention to the matter of balance trotting horses need it and why shouldnt the thoroughbred ami I had Mr Inge down to inspect our string The identity of the horses were not revealed to him and his opinion of Man o War of course pleased us The study of the horses foot has been a hobby of mine for a long tjlne it began away back in tiie days when Howard I Ixwis and I were partners nid won many races I vith Chanticleer Delaware aild other steeple ¬ chasers and I find it interesting to keep it up today todayJockey Jockey Knminer will ride Man o War in all his threeyearold stake cngageni rts Sandy Mac Xaughton his employer notified trainer Louis Fcustel that he could have tiie riders services in those races and Kiininier was engaged Mrs Kiddle who is even more enthusiastic about Man o War than her husband accompanied the mnster of Glen Kiddle ycsteday and is eagerly awaiting the opening of the Saratoga season She has for some years had si cottage at Saratoga and new owns one of the finest places ou Woodlawn
