FLANS FOR BELMONT PARK CHANGES Elaborate and Effective Scheme for Improvement of Course Suggested A plan has been suggested for an improvement In the plant of the Westchester Bucing Association which should add greatly to the popularity of Belmont Park Tins scheme which was worked out by a distinguished French architect was largely brought about through the initiative of Joseph E Widener who is taking a keen interest in turf matters It includes the altering of the present seating plan of the grand stand through the change of gradient and an extension of the seats clear to the pillars which are now some twentyfive feet f i oni the stairways This will increase the capac ¬ ity of the stand by fully a third and will in addi tijm give everybody an unobstructed view of the course At every pillar there will be a landing stage reached by a double row of broad stairs with ornamental iron railings These will be available from the lawn without descending a flight of steps as at present The aisles will be broad and there should be no congestion congestionThe The present promenade at the top of the stand will be utilized as a restaurant with kitchen from which hot food will be served and there will also be a couple of retiring rooms for women Above this a new and spacious promenade overlooking the heads of the spectators and commanding a view of the track and grounds will be constructed It will have soda and candy bars and should Its a favorite ren ¬ dezvous for many of the patrons of the sport sportThe The unsightly outside iron stairway at the end f the stand nest to the clubhouse will be removed The wall of the upper end of the stand will be plastered and window boxes with geraniums and other flowering plants will be a feature of the deco rtion Urns will be placed here and there about the inclosure and these will be kept filled with plants plantsNothing Nothing definite was decided in connection with the proposed change There was also an expression of hope that when the work was done it would em ¬ brace the building of a new clubhouse where the field stand now is and have the horses race from right to left as at the other tracks Major Belmont while a man of strong convictions and who has been opjvosed to any change in the manner of racing at Belmont Park is also broadminded where it is a matter of the public interest and he may favor the idea which has some strong proponents proponentsThe The paddock with the change would be in the beautiful old Manice Gardens famous for their box and other trees
