FAST RACING AT LATOKIA Greatly Improved Going Enables Horses to Stretcn to Limit Scwcll Combs Bests Blackic Daw Dawin in a Display of Fine Speed Speedin in the Feature BY J L DEMPSEY DEMPSEYLATONIA LATONIA Ky June 7 Improvement In the weather and a fast trKk were factors toward ex ¬ cellent sport at Latonia this afternoon The rac ¬ ing was witnessed by an attendance that exceeded by far any former gathering on a Monday unless it happened to be u holiday The racing was interesting with many finishes so close that it required the official placing to determine the re ¬ sult sultBetting Betting activities were in keeping with condi ¬ tions and the full battery of mutuels machines was in operation operationIn In leii of any pronounced headliners the handi ¬ cap at threequarters for a purse of 2UIM served as the feature and it brought with it an upset on the failure of ISlackie Daw which succumbed somewhat readily to Sewell Combs The latter showed a fine performance and high speed from the start covering the distance in 111 the fastest threequarters to date Blackie Daw teemed to IK deficient of early speed for he followed far back in the early running but closed up fast and gamely in the stretch stretchM M C Moore scored a double when he accounted for both dashes for twoyearolds His Uncle Aelo regarded as one of the best colts in these parts wis put to a severe test to outstay Brunswick Jn tlnijtmni piirKc which brought to the barrier a highly regarded band of juveniles Helium was the leader here to the last eighth where she gave way to Brunswick and he in turn succumbed to Uncle Aelo Runzaf ran well and finished in third place placeMinto Minto II and Lcoclmrcs were expected to renew their gruelling struggle of Churchill Downs when after fighting it out for the entire way they fin ¬ ished noses apart Looehares gave promise to again forcing out his younger rival to his utmost but the additional distance of a sixteenth over that contest there was made the victory easiex for Minlo II as he drew out bravely near the end Lcoeharcs taking second place just as easily from Baigneur BaigneurTrainer Trainer Perkins who saddled AVest Side and Uncle Aelo in the twoyearold dashes also saddled the winner Jouett in the sixth race Mint Cat was the favorite here and appeared a certain winner after rounding into the stretch but he tired unexpected and Jouett raced by him with ease in the last sixteenth sixteenthWar War Garden was the favored one in the first race but he was always a follower of Brig o AVar which won with ease easeBeginning Beginning Thursday the post time in the first race will be 215 As the hour daylight saving plan is in use in Cincinnati and adjacent districts it means that the opening race will be at 115 Chicago time timePreparations Preparations are being made for the reception of the Derby representatives that Harry Payne Whitney will start and which are now en route Trainer Rowo wired that he would send two of the threeyearolds to start in the Derby DerbyC C AV Gasscr came this morning with two horses from Toronto that he intends to race here hereE E AV Moore came from Hamilton this morning He left his horses at the track there to be rested until the opening of the Hamilton racing racingII II Oots brought his horses from Lexington Ky this morning and will race during the present meeting later shipping to AVindsor for the racing there therePrince Prince Pal is accounted a certain starter in the Latonia Derby which will have its decision next Saturday SaturdayJockey Jockey Erickson was suspended for ten days by the stewards for rough riding having cut across in front of the others soon after the start of the seventh
