SKELETON OF FAMOUS RACER CARBINE CARBINEThe The Duke of Portland has presented the skeleton of the famous race horse Carbine which among his numerous successes won the Melbourne Cup to the Public Library Museums and National Gal ¬ lery of Victoria The skeleton has duly arrived in Melbourne MelbourneCarbine Carbine which wim nearly 150000 in stakes securing thirtythree of the fortythree races in which he started besides being second in six and third in three others was purchased by the Duke of Portland and brought to England in 189 tlie idea being that his stout Musket blood would be an immense asset to the British Stud He sired Spearmint and Fowlingpiece Ramrod and other good stock but perhaps his success as a sire in England scarcely realized anticipations He died at the AVelbeck Stud shortly before the outbreak of the war ill 1914
