ESSEX RIDING CLUBS NEW HOME NEWARK N J July 3 The Essex Riding Club which formerly occupied cluhrooms at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark N J has recently acquired the estate of Mr Charles Dane at St Cloud West Orange N J The property consists of 21 acres of lawns and wooded lands very near the Essex County Reservation and on the top of the Orange Mountain The accessibility to the natural parkway which has been termed the Horsemans Mecca combined with the many novel features planned for the house and grounds are expected to make this new home one of the finest riding clubs in the country Its members will have every facility for golf tennis and other sports and a stable for the accommodation of one hundred horses will be In readiness within the course of a few months monthsAn An informal opening of the grounds was held on Memorial Day May 31 A buffet luncheon was served to alwut 00 members and guests in the grove of the estate During the luncheon an ex ¬ ceedingly appropriate address was made in pre ¬ senting to the president a club register and giv ¬ ing the history of lie club since its organization in Newark in 1912 of the great plans being de veloiKd to make the estate a paradise in the mountains On accepting the register the presi ¬ dent wished the guests of the slay i cordial wel ¬ come and brought out more forcibly the motto of the organization Devoted to equestrian activi ¬ ties goodfellowship and he cultivation and pro ¬ motion of sociability and to safeguard the welfare of horses horsesThe The membership is1 made up of residents from various sections of New Jersey New York and Brooklyn
