THUNDERSTORMS FINE RACE Scores One of Most Sensational Victories Seen On New York Track This Year. NEW YORK, N. Y., October 19. Thunderstorm scored one of the most sensational victories seen on the. Metropolitan track this year when he won the handicap at a mile and seventy yards at Empire City today. Ensor kept the big fellow under restraint in the early running, but nearly threw the race away when he got him into pockets and it was not until the final eighth that he was able to get him clear. Then iu a twinkling the Olambala colt came from last to first place and earned the decision in the last few strides. Crouiwell, the pacemnker throughout, was second and Tailor Maid third. The opening dash brought with it the disqualification of MavotirneQn, which finished second to Quecreek. Saude, who had the mount oil Mavourneen, cut across in front of the others near the five-eighths post and forced Pouch, into the fence, in addition to allowing his mount to almost cut the Madden colt down. Pouch received a severe gash on the off fore leg, which will lay him up for two weeks. Dernier Sou, the heavily backed favorite, was away slowly, but showed a good performance. After finishing third the Last Coin colt was moved up second by the disqualification of Mavourneen and Pavia given third money. The second race resulted in a hollow victory for Armistice, the second choice. Getting off in front Armistice led his opponents by five or six lengths all the way. Locust Leaves was the favorite, but the Wilson filly could never. j;et closer than third during the running and that effort caused her to tire in the final eighth aud she finished out of the money. American Soldier cyme as usual with his .belated, rush and got up. in the closing strides to beat Le Gaulols for second money. Jockey Saude has been engaged to ride for S. C.
