AT LOyiSyjLLErK Horses Galloping at Both Churchill Downs and Douglas Park Latest Gossip LOlISVILLE Ky March S The spring training season for the thoroughbreds In this section is now under way and the trainers arc beginning to gallop their horses at more than an exercise gallop A majority of the horses are quartered at Douglas Park but the Churchill Downs track which was rosoiled during tlie winter is available for training purposes now and the stables at tiiat course will fill up rapidly rapidlyIt It was th intention of track superintendent Tom Young to deny the use of the Downs course to trainers until about the middle of the month but a recent heavy snow packed the new soil so fiinily thai it affords excellent footing and it was decided to allow horses on it immediately immediatelyAt At Douglas Park the horses which spent the winter in retirement are being reinforced by many which raced at New Orleans and there is plenty of activity to be noticed The winter colony is much farther advanced in training than is usual this early in tin year and the horses which have been Idle since last autumn appear to be in splendid form as far as their health is concerned concernedSpringlike Springlike weathvr brought out a full quota for training gallops today todayGeneral General manager Matt 7 AVlnii of the Kentucky Jockey Club is spending a few days here looking over the improvements being made at Churchill Downs He will proceed to Lexington later in the week to note the work being done there thereMr Mr AVI mi only recently returned from a lengthy visit in New York and be says tlfat the easterners are more enthusiastic than over over the coming Kentucky Derby which will be run on May 7 One special train of ten compartment cars has already been arranged saiil Colonel Whin and the plans for others are in the making AVe have received requests for box reservations for Derby day from some of the most influential men in financial rides in New York as well as the leading sportsmen in that section and quite a few of them will come in their own private cars carsJames James AA Corrlgaii who was formerly associated with Price McKinney in the ownership of the AVickliffe Stable holds the record for a longdis ¬ tance request for a Derby day bos reservation Mr Whin received a communication from him today from Cairo Egypt in which he stated that he will return to America in lime to see the big race and he plans to bring a party of friends with him himApplications Applications for stall reservations have been re ¬ ceived from Walter 1 Salmon AV S Kilmer T AV OBrien and Gifford A Cochran These owners all have Derby cligibles in their stables stablesA A J Molera is an arrival from New Or ¬ leans with the division of Lloyd Gentrys stable which raced in the Crescent City All of the Jen try horses are now at Douglas Park their owner having brought the others down from Lexington whero they wintered Jockeys Tommy Murray and Harry Garner are with the entry establishment here hereOther Other horses to come in from New Orleans were those of A L Kirby Marshall Hro AV L Drake and A B Gordon The latter has eleven in his outfit including Muskallonge Bud Fishers Derby hope hopeLouis Louis Marshall has taken up Courtship and Marie Miller which were wintered at Douglas Iark In addition to these he has four others othersAV AV V Walsh official timer on the Kentucky racing circuit arrived last night from Shreveporl La LaJockey Jockey J McCoy who is under contract to J 0 G H Keeue came in from the name place placeJockey Jockey Mack Garner has reported to C C Van Meter who obtained first call on bib services for the entire Kentucky season Tim Van Meter horses will be transferred from Douglas Park to Churchill Downs within tho next ten days
