LOUISVILLE COMMON CARD Afternoon Devoted to Giving the Ordinary Racers a Chance Military Handicap Brings Down ¬ fall of a Hot Favorite Owner Travers Takes Two Races LOUISVILLE Ky May 27 The United States Remount Association became possessor of an option on a stallion prospect in the threeyearold colt Slipalong by Ballot Hazzaza which won the Military Handicap in which he carried the silks of H H Hewitt Incidentally the result was marked by the most pronounced upset of the afternoon In the defeat of Hcreater The latter was an outstanding favorite and backed with confidence He acted fractiously at the barrier and this coiiplpd with the fact that he was weighted with 122 pounds took much out of him arfd though he displayed the most speed from the start he began tiring in the stretch and fell a ready victim near the end to Slipalong Nordeck landed in third place Under the conditions Of the race the United States Remount officers have an option on the horse for a period oCfseven days and they can take him over dring tjiat time on payment of 1500 v The colors of W V Thraves figured lij a double victory during the af ternooh the fillies Lady Astor and Miss Fontaine being the successful ones to carry hem home The former ht ni fltadhy topin kent n the good going managlnfrtTTmiTlmslilJrilHapt Star a firsttime starter from M he B R Bradley stable placeMiss with Atta Gal landing third place Miss Fontaine overhauled Dr Carmen after the latter had been the leader until1 well Into tfie stretch Dr Carmen was the favored one despite industrious circulation of n report that he was verging on a breakdown He finished without th semblance of lameness Todays card was of the offday variety claiming dashes being four of the races and Pbrought Into contest ordinary racers The opener resulted In victory for Balance Wheel riot because of his being best but due to the inex erience of Anthony who had the mount on Sea Court With a better rider Sea Court would have won wonTodays Todays track was puzzling to the backers on ac ¬ count of its rapid drying quality It bordered on ast at the close of the afternoon after apparently icing heavy at the outset outsetSAD SAD DAY TOR FAVORITE FAVORITEFavorites Favorites were again overthrown with a regularity hat left the followers of choices sadly depleted at the close The only successful choice during the afternon was Honolulu Boy His victory came in the mile and a quarter dash and it was an easy one Randcl oneRandcl which scored in a previous race was leaten out by Bright Trash in the sixth race Blarney raceBlarney Stone from C J Brockmillers stable won by a small margin from Yellow Blossom in the final dash Randel was claimed for 1800 by Mueller and Jrooks represented by Azure Rose Randel on his only two races appears a good colt and is well worth priceKingfisher the claiming price Kingfisher which Mrs J L Paul claimed out lis last race went back to his former stable wheu B J Brannon claimed him hack for 1900 Blarney 1900Blarney Stone also changed ownership via the claiming 1900Hal route being taken by M Reiser for 1900 Hal Price Headley came over from Lexington to witness the racing and view the performance of some of his starters Bright Trash scored in his colors colorsJ J Randolph was fined a nominal sum for fail ng to declare a jockey in the specified time on Link Boy BoyKay Kay Spence who saddled Lady Astor and Miss Fontaine was especially gratified by the victory of Lady Astor as he had a 500 bet made last fall with E R Bradley that she would be a two yearold winner In addition to losing his wager to Kay Siicncc Bradley also lost a good sum on his Brilliant Star which Lady Astor beat Jockey beatJockey J Butwell came over with trainer John F Schorr this afternoon and will ride Dream of Allah in the Spring Trial Stakes tomorrow Balance tomorrowBalance Wheel which was recently bought pri ¬ vately by Milo Shields from E R Bradley went to E Trotters stable after his victory in the opener having been claimed at a cost of 3200 Boy 3200Boy From Home and Better Still have finished racing for this year on account of suspicious legs and will be shipped to Idle Hour Farm to be doc ¬ tored and rested until next year Jockey yearJockey Danny Connelly was at the track during the afternoon and showed marked effects of the kicks he received from Tugs in the race that Con ¬ nelly rode Nominee Connellys jaws are swollen to toisjvt twice their normal size and he will have to isjvt l liijuid diet for some time He will also require the attention of a dentist to fit him with practically an entire set of teeth teethii ii iirumhiller shipped his stable this afternoon to Omaha for the racing there He took along his recently claimed Mysterious Girl
