HORSES FOR BLUE BONNETS Winning TwoYearOlds From New York and Maryland to Race There MONTREAL Que May 27 Blue Bonnets racing will attract in Lord Granite a son of Granite and Devonshire Dolly St Val ¬ entine a son of Theo Cook and Katriona and Wrangle a son of Seth and Meddling Hannah three promising juvenile develop ¬ ments of the spring meetings of the Metro ¬ politan Jockey Club at Jamaica and the Maryland Jockey Club at Pimlico Lord Granite will ship with a half dozen othei horses of the stable of J H Louchheim of Philadelphia his breeder in Uie charge of Dan Clark from the Jamaica course in the next week He bucked his shins in the running of the Youthful Stakes and is tem ¬ porarily on the shelf St Valentine which belongs to J Edwin Griffith of Baltimore and Wrangle which is owned by Frank Far rar will come on from Woodbine Park after the spring meeting of the Ontario Jockey Club ClubIt It is improbable that three faster young ¬ sters than these will be seen around Mon ¬ treal through the spring and early summer Lord Granite which began his career at Lexington in early May with a conditioning race at a half mile equaled the Jamaica track record of 59 on May 12 when he de ¬ feated High Chief Homestretch Vennie and High Prince in a race of fiveeighths for maidens of both sexes He galloped the first quarter in 23 and tho half in 47 He covered the last eighth ten lengths in front of High Chief in 11 which was quicker time than he had made in the first eighth Be ¬ cause of this performance he was backed liberally to beat the highly tried Bud Lar ner in the Youthful Granite is a New York bred son of Rockton and Adriutha she a daughter of Clifford He is well and favor ¬ ably known to Canadian racing as the sire of Baby Grand he one of the best horses that has borne the silks of Commander J 1C L Ross of Montreal president of the Montreal Jockey Club in the course of the last half dozen years Baby Grand will race at Blue Bonnets BonnetsSt St Valentine was beaten by Jolly in the first race in which he started at Pimlico because of the condition of his jockey He came back a day later and beat Wrangle Faith W and Jolly in a renewal of the Spring Juvenile a race of four and a half furlongs for twoyearolds St Valentine was bred in Virginia by William Garth before Garth sold Thco Cook St Valentines sire to Edward F Simms for service at the Xalapa Stud in Kentucky His stock is American and stout His dam Katriona was by Woolsthorpe Gretchen she a daughter of Luke Blackburn and Pinafore St Valentine has a quick turn of early speed and the courage he showed under pressure in the Spring Juvenile renewal indicated ability to go on onFarrar Farrar himself bred Wrangle the Seth colt St Valentine beat a half length in the Spring Juvenile AVrangles dam Meddling Hannah daughter of Meddler was racing a few years back under the Farrar silks Seth is a son of Adam Farrar is becoming something of a breeder of thoroughbreds He has Pol roma son of the worldfamous Polymelus which for several years has been the leading sire of England at stud service in Maryland and eleven foals claiming Polroma for sire have come into being this year Wrangle has not yet come into his own He is a colt of unusual size and powerful build The four and four and a half furlongs sprints of the Bowie Havre de Grace and Pimlico meet ¬ ings were too short for him himWith With St Valentine Harry Rites trainer of the Griffith string will bring to Blue Bonnets the fouryearold Jog and a promising jumper called Griffwood Jeg is a longdistauce run ¬ ner Griffwood has been schooled through the field for over a year and both Mr Griffith and Rites are confident that he will make a good steeplechaser
