Lincoln Fields Meet Expected to Yield Over HalfMillion to State in Revenue Sportsmans Park Success Presages Well for 29Day Session Opening Tuesday TuesdaySTICKNEY STICKNEY 111 May 12 The Lincoln Fields meeting which opens at Hawthorne Tuesday gives promise of being a much greater success financially than any that has come before The operating jockey club which turned over a total of 416061 in 30 days of racing last spring is expected to surpass the half million mark in revenue to the state this year despite the fact that the session will be of but 29 days duration durationChalk Chalk players too are looking forward to bigger and better things Although fa ¬ vorites clicked to the extent of 36 per cent at the Lincoln meeting last spring and some 38 per cent at the regular Hawthorne meeting which of course was decided over the same track bettors of favorites are wearing the cloak of optimism and hoping for even more success this season seasonStatistics Statistics show that favorites had much more success over the Hawthorne track last season than over Washington Park where the Arlington and Washington meetings were held last season and will be staged again this year They also had more luck I than at the regular Sportsmans Park meetings although the sixday War Fund session at that track produced the highest percentage of winning favorites favoritesAttendance Attendance in 43 Showed Big Increase IncreaseThe The total attendance at the Lincoln Fields meeting last year was about 70000 more than that of 1942 in a similar num ¬ ber of days and a like increase in patron ¬ age is looked for this year The daily average parimutuel handle which was 479539 will easily go over the half mil ¬ lion mark this season if the increase in business at Sportsmans Park is to be taken as an example exampleIt It is expected that Lincoln Fields patrons will see the Arkansas Derby winner Chal ¬ lenge Me in action early in the meeting The colt although he failed to impress in the Kentucky Derby in which he went to the post at less than 10 to 1 is expected to be a factor in the stakes during the coming weeks The colt was forced to ac cept a jockey change in the Derby and per ¬ haps his substitute rider was not thor ¬ oughly familiar with the colt coltChallenge Challenge Me and 11 other horses of the Brolite Farm including the fine sprinter Roman Sox and the good racer The Finest checked in from Louisville Thurs ¬ day and are quartered at Hawthorne Trainer Dan Cataldo reports that all shipped satisfactorily satisfactorilyJohn John Marsch Chicago sportsman is ex ¬ pected to have the strongest string on the Illinois circuit again this season The Marsch horses earned over 125000 last year to place their owner at the top of the moneywinning list in the state In fact the stable was one of the two earning over 100000 Among the Marsch stable stars who will be back are Occupation Occupy and Jezrahel They will be stabled at Haw ¬ thorne
