ran an honest race Conley Coney waited with him the first half and came with a rush with the old horse the last half Three Bars was always outrun He did not seem to be able to raise a gallop and has three were driving Cathedral was undoubtedly the best He came fast on the inside under punishment and seemed to be running straight and true at the end Frank Bell was off flying but Espionage caught him on tho thou far turn and he bore out taking Espionage with him The colt seemed dead beaten at tho thou head of tho thou stretch but came on again under punishment If there was a foul it must have occurred in the last fifty yards At this point tho thou trio were about on even terms and it did not look as though Cathedral who was running the strongest caused any interference and certainly Espionage interfered with no other horse The decision disqualifying both Cathedral and Espionage was a sensational one and a great surprise to the crowd The race was strictly between the first three labor in the going He looked to have a chance at the half mile ground but could not respond when called upon Martha II and St Alfonses Alfonso D were both staggering at the finish Martha II will do came on again and managed to win There seemed to be a lot of intsrference interference in tho thou race and McNickle Canticle who rode Eleanor Holmes lodged a claim of foul against Tartarian Agrarian The judges called the boys on the first three up iu tho thou stand and gave each a chance to toll his story It took over a half hour f9r the offi off ¬ cials calls to decide and they finally paid off as the horses finished Thorpe who rode Primate was hit in the eye with a clod of dirt and was badly hurt He was able to see little or nothing after the happenedScratched happened accident happened
