HOLSCHER NOT TO JUMP THIS YEAR. William Shields has decided not to put Holscher through the field. The winner of the Dixie and Maximum staks and the Washington Cup last season, which started Tuesday at Bennlug in the handicap won by Sonoma Belle from Ormondes Right and Saylor, will continue to race on the flat through this season at least. Ilolscher wintered well, but he was so sore last fall when he went Into quarters Shields had to blister hiin severely. He was so long recovering from the effects of that painful treatment the young Canadian could not school hiin as carefully as he needed to be to run races through the field this season. Holsehcr will be trained especially for the distance races run in the summer and autumn. Shields is not without hope of winning another Brighton Cup with the Lamplighter 4-year-old, and he thinks it a cinch Ilolscher will wiu the Maximum and the Cup here next fall if he can be got to the post tit.
