ARE OFF IN GOOD STYLE AT OLD PIMLICO Great Crowd in Attendance to View Closely Con ¬ tested and Spirited Racing Baltimore Md April 22 The spring meeting of the Maryland Jockey Club opened today under favorable conditions The card was a good one the weather simply perfect for outdoor sport and the attendance large enough to pack the grand stand and clubhouse There are enough historic turf events connected with this famous old course to make Marylanderg look with pride to the Pliu lico meeting Society folks were out in force this afternoon tbe long row of private boxes in front of the staud and the cozy little clubhouse Inclosure being well filled filledAs As to the racing a majority of the races proved keenly contested affairs Jockey James McCahey was the real thing in the riding line He had five mounts during the afternoon and won with three of them Favorites won two of the races but the other winners received strong support and it is doubtful if the layers quit to tbe good on tbe afternoons play playAlgernon Algernon Dalngerfield assistant secretary of the Jockey Club arrived from New York this morning and brought over the report of favorable action on the applications for licenses of Jockeys Llebert J W Murphy L S McCabe Brannon James Hogg Grantland and Robinson Mr Dalngerfleld returned to New York tonight tonightJ J E Madden was among the visitors He stopped off here on his way to New York from Lexington James McLaughlln Tommy Burns Charles Koerner J McCahey Fairhrother and Tommy Fullen were also among those who arrived this morning Mc Laughlin brought over several horses and Tommy Burns will do some of his riding ridingJockey Jockey Mclnerny who had the mount on Prince of Pilsen which fell In the steeplechase came out of the mixup with a broken nose noseJ J J McAllister of Hamilton Canada W H McMullen of New Orleans and Mr Kerr of Ches ¬ ter Pa were among those who got in this morning
