CALIFORNIA JOCKEY CLUBS STAKES Burns Handicap Changed to 510000 Added Raco and Other Substantial Increases Made San Francisco Cal Jnlv SO Through President Thomas H Williams the California Jockey Club has announced its stake program for the winter racing of IflOSOU Considerable departures from values of the past have been made principal of which is the changing of he Burns Handicap from a guaranteed valun stake of 10000 to one of 10000 Jidded a move that will materially increase the amount of the winners portion The Thornton Stakes of four miles and the Waterhonse Cup at two miles and a quarter have each been raised to 5000 added money Other substantial advances have been made and no stake race will have less than 2 XM In added money moneyIn In addition to the stakes there will be frequent overnight handicaps and special races witli from 1000 to 2000 added In Tiew of the probable lack of the customary racing at New Orleans It Is the purpose of tlie California Jockey Club to do its utmost in the way of providing generously for the horsemen of the country
