OAKLAND RACE TRACK IMPROVEMENTS Work Has Already Begun on the California Jockey Clubs Emeryville Course CourseSan San Jrancisco Cal August 20 The work of im ¬ proving the Emeryville race track has already com ¬ menced Improvement are now under way whlcn will make the laclosure more commodious tor the speculator and tuore comfortable tor the spectator Superintendent James J Grant under the supervi ¬ sion of Secretary Percy W Treat has undertaken to enlarge the betting ring and extend the seating accommodation so that the ground will easily be able to take care of the expected increase in attendance during the coming season seasonA A large number of workmen are now engaged in Improving the grandstand and eulargiug thf betting ring and it will bo quite six weeks before these im ¬ provements are completed completedThe The new bolting ring will l e seventyfive feet longer and thirtyfive feet wider thtiu before it Uavlng bcen necessary to jnov the oiliies and lava lories in order to accomplish hi md The bank of the old betting ring has been torn down and the roof Will be extended over the old driveway which lieretofore led past the paddock and in its place a new driving road will be made lower down along the plank sidewalk that leads to the Southern Pacific PacificOver Over the new section of the betting ring the grand ¬ stand will he extended which will give accommo ¬ dations for about 4000 more persons This new portion will however not be covered and will only he a popular Spot in dry weather Superintendent Grant lias planned to remove the present oflices of the track officials to the rear of the betting ring alongside the plank sidewalk and many improvements are under way to make the official headquarters more comfortable The new building when com ¬ pleted will be sixty feet square The squareThe paddock has also been considerably altered and as newly constructed it will be easy for the patrons of that section to pick out any horse as soon as it enters the gate The paddock stalls have been moved back twenty feet leaving room In front for the horses to do their parading before they enter their stalls for saddling The jockevs and Jockey officials have not been forgotten as new quarters are being designed that will make their lot happier and nlore comfortable
