BELMONT STAKES KAY BE REDUCED New York February 3 For the coming meeting of the Westchester Racing Association at Beluiont Park it has already been announced that in lieu of increasing the value of the stakes the overnight purses would be increased With that end in view Ihe association is endeavoring to secure the consent of those interested in the Beluiont Stakes to have that rich race reduced from an added value of 20000 to an added value of 10000 If the asso ciatiou is successful in tiiis effort the remaining 10000 is to IH expended in the overnight races racesFew Few of those originally nominated remain in the eligible list and some of the nominators have al ¬ ready agreed to the reduction James II Keene with Sweep as his eligible and August Belmont with Starbottle in the list have the only colts left that seem to be of class enough for a race such as the Beluiont Of course should any owner who Mill has an Interest in the stake refuse to consent to the proposed cutting lit half of the prize the Belmont will be run at its original value 20000 added but it is considered well nigh certain that there will be no objection to the change and the overnight races will be correspondingly benefited
