GETTING READY AT JAMESTOWN Norfolk Va October 14 Seldom have tnrfmen and other devotees of the sport of thoroughbred rac ¬ ing turned to a track with the unanimity that they are turning to Jamestown said Fred W Gerhardy racing secretary and one of the judges of the James ¬ town Jockey Club on his arrival in Norfolk today The remark of Mr Gerhardy was made anent the fall meeting of the Jamestown Jockey Club No ¬ vember 1 to 10 Mr Gerhardy is just from Marlboro Md where a race meeting is now on It looks good for Jamestown he continued Almost all tlie prominent owners of the east and some from Canada and the west will race here this fall Jamestown will have the biggest and best meeting it has ever had Mr Gerhardy came here for a conference with Robert Levy manager of the Jamestown Jockey Club The two officials spent most of the day at the track looking over the preparations that are being made there Forty men are at work on the Oat and steeplechase courses The flat is being cut up and harrowed over while the jumping course is being practically remade Every element of danger possible will be removed from it and it Is certain that it will be one of the safest courses of the kind in the country The jumps will be made to con ¬ form strictly to the rules of the National Steeple ¬ chase and Hunt Association Carpenters are busy on the 400 additional stalls that will be required to take care of the horses that are coming for the races racesThe The book of conditions for the first seven days of the meeting is out There are two handicaps of 1000 each five purses of 400 each and the other purses are for 250 and up added iuei
