KEEN ELAND HORSES ALL FOR SALE Luke McLuke and Choice Mares Are All to Go Farm to Be Leased. RY EXILE. All of the horses now owned by J. O. Keeno are for sab;. No good purpose would be served by going into the why and wherefore. The only thing of real interest to breeders of bloodstock is that Luke McLuke, the horses in training and a choice collection of Keeneland mares, both native and foreign-bred, are for sale. Luke McLuke could run, and so can his progeny, as witness the win of Cotton Blossom in the Cincinnati Trophy; the recent success of Luuetta; Simpletons stakes success, and all of this the first time of asking, for the oldest of Luke McLukes progeny are but now two yean; of age. Besides his ability to run- Luke McLuke has breeding to recommend him. A member of the Domino tribe, his dam. Midge, a daughter of that first-class Australian Trenton, whose daughter. Wakeful, was as. good a race mare as they ever had down under. Trenton is by Musket, with which strain the United States is only scantily supplied, and Midges dam is Sandfly, by the best Cup horse there ever was Isonomy and is a member of the Carbine, Volti-geur. Lord Clifden branch of the Burton Barb mare family. It goes without saying that a stallion of the proven ability of Luke McLuke will not be long ou offer. Stallions, however, have a way of taking care of themselves, and I for oue am far more interested in the disposition of the brood mares. Jack Keeno has no more tise for an off-bred one than I, and all of the Keeneland mares are well enough bred to suit even the hypercritical. Rock Sand stands first this season as a brood mare sire. Fifteen of his daughters have produced the winners of fifty-two races of 18,000; moreover, the best two-year-old I think I ever saw race, Man o War, is out of Rock Sands .daughter Ma-hubah. Among the Keeneland matrons there is Koum Kaled, a seven-yerir-old daughter of Rock Sand, which traces to Biondina, sister to Primrose Dame, dam of Perth, by Barcaldlne, and this the Beeswing branch of the No. 8 family, the family of Sun Briar, Sweep, Ayrshire, Melton and New-minster. Black Brocade is a daughter of the recently defunct Two Thousand Guineas winner Neil Gow, and her granddam is Black Duchess, dam of Bayardos and Dark Ronalds sire Ray Ronald. Sir Dixon mares are most productive Of winners of the best class, and Agnes Virginia, is no exceptiou to the rule, for is she not the dam of the Spinaway winner Jacoba? Dont is Nursery bred and by Octagon Donna Mia, half-sister to Beldame, by 111 Used. Tsarina is the dam of the 5,000 Saratoga beauty, by Kingston, dam St. Simons daughter Katherine II. It must cause a bit of a wrench parting with such mares as these. First Lady traces to Hermit s dam Seclusion. Then there is Manager Waites dam, the Australian-bred La Venganza, by that out and outer Abercorn, son of Chester, by Yattendon. More than ever be f pre this year at Saratoga was it apparent that yearling buyers were well aware of the value of blood lines. Once start the ball to rolling it wont stop before the best will be none too good to Drodueo those necessary for success. Man o War, Blazes, Constancy, Cleopatra, Sir Barton, Vexatious. Purchase, Eternal. Exterminator, Cudgel all of them are bred to and can run. Once in a while a swift though off-bred runner may be developed, but outside of racing what use are those of this stripe? For breeding purposes such are calculated to do an iniinite amount of harm. Harm, however, cannot come from using mures bred as are those which now find a home at Keeneland. The farm itself is to be offered for lease for a term of five or ten years.
