HONEYNOOK CANTERS H C McConnell Colt Takes Red Grange Purse Under Restraint Elevate and Bill Seth Provide ProvideStirring Stirring Stretch Fight for forSecond Second Place AURORA 111 May 25 A race for two yearolds the Red Grange Purse was the feature of the program at Exposition Park today and brought out a field of seven good youngsters It was a condition affair over four and a half furlongs Honeynook a black gelding brought here by the Nevada Stock Farm and recently acquired by H C McConnell via the claiming route outclassed his six other rivals in the heavy going which prevailed and was far in the lead of his nearest opponent throughout the short trip Fitzgerald Pattersons Elevate proved second best and barely outstayed E E Majors Bill Seth for second money Elevate raced coupled with H P Morans Colflex as the H P Moran and Fitzgerald Pat ¬ terson entry Honeynook ridden by jockey A Pendergrass ruled a pronounced choice and giving his backers little cause for anxiety scored a popular victory victoryProm Prom a good start Pendergrass promptly hustled Honeynook to the front and after making the first turn raced into a tenlength lead on the turn into the home stretch Bill Seth was close to the leader but was a scant halflength before Elevate as the pair of them staged a hard struggle all the way to see which was second best but the dis ¬ tant leader was much too good for them After entering the stretch Honeynook was still eight lengths to the fore and was taken under restraint by his rider who kept him safely in the lead to the finish to win by four lengths Elevate finally got the better of Bill Seth in the final drive and outstayed him for second place The four other starters the race raceSIXGIXG SIXGIXG CRICKET SCORES SCORESW W P Gaines annexed another purse when Singing Cricket hard hustled by jockey V Peterson began auspiciously and scored an easy triumph in the initial number Strite Valentines Worthman proved best for second place while O L Fosters Zoya took third money gaining fast in the closing stages Singing Cricket displayed the most speed and performing well in the exceed ¬ ingly rough and heavy going made every post a winning one and was never in serious danger of losing the race at any stage Jim Bethel raced in nearest pursuit of the leader to the stretch followed by Worthman and Zoya Nearing the last eighth Jim Bethel began to tire and Worthman and Zoya easily overcame him to take second and third place respectively The winner was the favorite here hereC C T Worthington displayed a liking for the tough going and scored narrovly over Sligo Branch Rocking and six others in the second race at threequarters Jockey V Peterson had the mount on C T Worthing ¬ ton and it marked his second straight winner The winner was far back from the leaders until the stretch turn was reached where he circled his opponents and raced to the front Nearing the finish Sligo Branch came with a great rush and rapidly wearing C T Worthington down forced him to do his best at the end to save the decision Rocking outfinished Whats the Time in the last eighth for third place Whats the Time showed the way for a half mile but tired in the final drive Rocking was the favored one here hereMISS MISS MISCHIEF AGAIN AGAINJ J I Pauls Miss Mischief favored by the going was returned an easy winner over the threequarters of the third race Kathe finished going gamely in second position while third was the portion of Power Ege hard hustled set the early pace closely at ¬ tended by the ultimate winner until the stretch turn was made Kathe raced in third position followed by Power racing fourth Two other starters Dellahm anil Ace of Diamonds brought up the rear and were always outrun When called upon three sixteenths out Miss Mischief challenged and easily passed Ege into the lead and held it without effort to the end Kathe and Power finished fast als defeating Ege and taking second and third places respectively Miss Mischief was the second favorite of the day to score scoreMrs Mrs L M Holmes Waponoca finally broke into the winning class when he took the measure of eight other ordinary ones over throequarters in Bathilde Seth showed the most early speed until rounding the far turn where Pollymara then raced to the front Rubinette and Waponoca were close up and seemingly under restraint When the stretch turn was made Polly ¬ mara began tjring and Waponoca hard pressed by Rubinette challenged and over ¬ took the leader Inside the last seventy yards Waponoca gained a slight advantage over Rubinette and just lasted to the finish to win by a nose The winner received the bulk of the publics support in this race raceAdd Add Lead A911 Aurora Machine 8 Favorites continued to score with consis ¬ tency when the staunchly supported Quin Chin backed to the exclusion of the others in the sixth race took the measure of Ad ¬ venturess Foreland and four others in an ¬ other threequarter mile dash Jockey R Deprema piloted the winner and following in close pursuit of the early leader Adven ¬ turess succeeded in overhauling her an eighth but arid holding her safe at the end to win going away Foreland held third place safe virtually from the start
