LEEWAY raced straight and showed speed from the start, came again in the final drive and outlasted CHALLENGE PLAY. The latter, a forward factor from the start, hung at the finish. THE HEIR, on the inside, moved up when urged and then faltered. VICAR JOHN raced greenly while on the inside and showed a good effort. ASSACLT showed earlv speed on the outside. FLEETAIR came to the outside entering the stretch, responded to pressure and disposed of TERSE in the final drive. The latter, a forward factor from the start, bore out entering the stretch and then hung at the end. NAPOO raced prominently from the start, was steered to the outside for-the final eighth and closed fast. SCN FLAME saved ground all the wav and tired at the finish. BLBBI.ING IMAGE had no mishaps. Won driving; second and third the same. PORTAGE TRAIL was fractious lit the post, was sprinted into an easy lead, drifted out badly in the final eighth, impeded REKRAB and outfinished him. The latter was steadied along in the early stages, moved up rounding to the stretch turn, cme to the outside of the leader in the stretch run and held on gamely, despite interference. EQUINOX was rated along steadilv, came around the leaders entering the stretch and was eased to the inside when PORTAGE TRAIL drifted out. SCGAR RATION raced well and had no mishaps. JACIAN was outrun. A claim of foul was lodged again«t t lie winner, which was allowed and Portage Trail was placed last. Overweieht — Portage Trail, 1 pound. ELKRIDGE was steadied along early, moved up stoutly on the inside entering the final half mile, assumed command at the final fence, and just lasted. FLOATING ISLE almost unseated his rider at the eighth fence, but recovered quickly, improved his position on the inside and finished fzst. MERCATOR showed speed throughout, made a bad landing at the fourth fence, and then came acain at the end. ROYAL ARCHFR was steadied along the first part, but failed to respond at the end. ABIDALE had no mishap. GAY VENTURE fell at the twelfth trving to avoid the prostrate CHESAPEAKE, who fell at that fence. MERPOLIS fell at the tenth. Scratched— 72242 War Battle, 135. BILL HARDEY was slow to settle in his stride, improved his position and finished well. CHANCE NICK, quick to begin, saved ground, but bore out on MENOTNOW after rounding the stretch turn.
