LOGANS LOANS NINETY SEVENTH yVIN yIN Alexander Shields veteran Logan scored his ninetyseventh ninety victory at Ideal Park yesterday He was in the third event a mile dash for all ages and on his class looked like a sure winner Still in the early stages of the betting he was as good as 2 to 1 but at post time even money was the best price in the ring The old horse loves the soft goiug going and brone brome away from the post like a twoyearold toehold Little Shields got him cut off on the first turn and his backers were given a scare but only for an instant for down the back stretch Logan went to his field On the far turn only Jersey Lad was left and in the straight he too cracked Then the old turf noble went to the front and won as jauntily as he used to win in 1893 It was the popular victory of the day After the race Mr Shields remarked to a number of horsemen that he was very lucky but added Yes he has won ninetysix ninety races in the same lucky way and been beaten by heads or noses just as often oftenB often B J Johnson had a hard luck story after Loudon London was beaten by Florence P in the last race Mr Johnson had picked the first four winners and had a fat combination winding up on Sidkel Side He bet 100 on his horse at 4 to 5 and stood to win well no matter which one of the pair won When Florence P came tearing through the stretch Mr Johnson went to cogitation and after the race left the track trackThe track The track was very muddy and the card un ¬ balanced consequently winning favorites were numerous Pinchback Pinchbeck was a liberal even money chance in the first Holy Terror a 1 to 2 shot in the second Logan at even money in the third and Umbrella a surety at 1 to 3 in the fourth These four won romping and the talent had quite a bit laid up when it came to Loudons Loudness race and from the way he was played they must have put it all down downTully doubtfully Tully Coulter and Wm Oliver were busy col cool ¬ lecting letting election bets and J E Gushing the only democrat on the track could not be found
