IDEAL PARKS CLOSING DAY The racing season of Ideal Park for 1896 closed yesterday and it was a grand winding up too for the public all five of the events going to heavily played favorites It was quite cold and the track was frozen stiff and hard The racing was more than ordinary tame all of the win ¬ ners nears having something to spare spareA spare A selling race at one mile was the afternoons feature and May Thompson won quite easily from Countess Irma Weenatchie Went was named as a starter but she went lame in warming up Her owners request to scratch her was refused When the horses were on their way to the post it was plain to everyone that Weenatchie Went was lame and unfit to start After a breakaway Judge Clark decided the filly was in no shape to race and all bets were declared off and Ween Wen ¬ atchie catchier let out outThe mouthed The Lakeland stable was quite busy winning two purses with Hester and May Thompson and running second with Maid of Honor Hester was a 6 to 5 chance in the first event and get ¬ ting away in the first flight simply galloped all the way winning pulled up upWhitcomb Whitcomb Witco was the usual good thing He opened at 2 to 1 but was backed almost off the boards and won in a common canter The reg Greg ¬ ular bulbar fourth race was declared off and a half mile dash substituted Sugar heavily played and well ridden by the veteran Stoval Steal won with a bit to spare from Maid of Honor HonorW Honor W E F S Everharts Overhears fast colt Holy Terror ran a sensational lace in the closing event He was off last and won handily in the fast time of 49J4 seconds
