GOOD YOUNGSTERS IN INDIANA An early morning trip through the stables at the Indiana tracks would lead one to believe that racing was about to commence There are nearly 300 hundred horses quartered in the com ¬ fortable stalls and their daily exercise espec ¬ ially that of the youngsters furnishes the con ¬ versational currency of the colony In the var ¬ ious bands are nearly seventyfive twoyearolds and already some have shown remarkable speed speedB B J Johnson John Brenock E T McConnell and Ruddy Bros have the largest bands of youn sters The Buddy lot is full of pedigree but as yet untried B J Johnson has fifteen thir ¬ teen by Terra Gotta one by Fonso Eva S a full brother to Rudolph and the other a full brother to Jacobin The latter are grand look ¬ ers and have shown great speed in sampling Rudolphs brother it is said turned a half in 49 seconds the first quarter being covered in 23J4 seconds One of the Terra Cottas out of Annie OFallon reeled off her quarter in better than 24 seconds Besides the twoyearolds Mr Johnsons list contains Paul Griggs Serena Diggs Sutton Evanatus and four maidens They all look well and have taken on consider ¬ able flesh since the close of the local racing sea ¬ son Sutton in particular has grown a lotand judging from looks should be a grand three yearold Diggs brother is a colt of smooth i action grand conformation and phenomenal speed He is sure to like a distance distanceE E T McConnell has a bay colt by Order Daybreak that furnishes much of the everyday talk of the Roby colony He is as smooth a turned youngster as eye ever measured and has the action of a perfectlly built machine One morn ¬ ing some ton days ago he breezed a quarter down the back stretch in 24 seconds The colt was bought for a song out of the Beaumont con tingent sold at Detroit last summer Since then Mr Headley the master of Beaumont is said to have made several bids for the colt coltTh Th best yet shown in John Brenocks lot is by a bay filly by Powhattan Sisterlya half sister to Joe Murphy She has turned her quarter in 21 seconds and a half in 50 seconds smart work for a filly That pood mare Weola in the Bren ¬ ock string has been fired but is doing nicely now nowW W H Roller has one of the best looking two yearolds in Indiana He is a bay colt by Ford ham Lady Kinross and is of phenomenal size with a lot of finish Rollers eye for conforma ¬ tion is famed in turf history Roller also has a bay colt by Hanover Gratitude a bay filly by Bramble Elsie Gaylord a bay filly by Strath more and a chestnut filly by Strathmore King Cup dam of Annalylo AnnalyloWalter Walter Gumm has a bay full sister to Uncas which promises to be quite a useful racing tool She has not been asked to do much but her mild tasks have been well and cleverly done doneWalter Walter Hedges has a good pair in the King Alfonso Gold Drop filly and the chestnut colt by Favor Martha Birch BirchP P Havill of the Eagle Stable has four likely looking fillies The best one is by Bramble Sister Monica the dam of Pizzarro She has worked a half in better than 50 seconds and was bought at the Tattersall sale for less than 100 The other three are by Forester Bramble and Cassius The latter is out of Tambourine and has shown sharp speed speedFollowing Following is a list of some of the other owners and their twoyearolds quartered in Indiana IndianaThomas Thomas Lucky B f by Sir Dixon Lady Farron FarronB B f by Hindoo HindooB B f by Ormonde OrmondeBr Br f by Sir Dixon Claudean Charles Cougle B c by Fordham Louise P PB B c by Fashionable FashionableA A Odom Ch c by Forester Little Bess BessC C P Fink Ch c by TipstaffNew City Queen Newsgatheror in Finks stable outlooks any ¬ thing at the track and will be trained early
