ORNAMENT IS IN GOOD FORM C T Patterson who with H P Headloy OWDS Ornament says of the colt who is at Mom phis Ornament has wintered well and is do ¬ ing all asked of him I am getting him ready for the Kentucky Derby and will also try to win the St Louis Derby with him He will meet Typhoon II Algol Meadowthorpe and the rest of the Western cracks in these two events and the showing he makes will decide his future If he does as well as I expect he will be taken East I have a big band of promising 2year olds aid the best of them are heavily engaged in the big Eastern stakes I dont mind telling you now that Ihave one that will win the Fu urity barring accident Ogden beat Ornament in the Futurity last year and their race gave me a line on the quality necessary to win a stake of that caliber caliberTod Tod Sloan lost the Futurity on Ornament It was the biggest stake he ever rode in during hi3 career on the turf and he was seized with a bad attack of stage fright Ogden had no license to beat Ornament that day and my horse showed he was the best the next time they came together in the Flatbush at seven furlongs Ornament winning as he pleased I saw Ty ¬ phoon II run out East He had a tremendous burst of speed but like a steam engine with the throttle wide open he runs himself com ¬ pletely out When he stops there aint nothing to it He just chucks it up like a dog and dies away completely L remember his race in the Great Eastern Martin rode him that day and he showed the way into the stretch run ¬ ning like a wild horse It looked all over at this stage of the journey but Typhoon II quit in a doggy fashion when challenged by Ogden and was beaten easily easilyOrnament Ornament was a bad horse at the post last year Early in the season ho ran into the gate at Memphis and he was afraid to break from the barrier ever afterwards Bad starts beat him in the Kindergarten and 2yearold cham ¬ pionship stakes at the Fair Grounds I am con ¬ fident that Ornament will go a route He handles himself nicely and has a grand way of going He just played with Burlesque in their work Lonnie Clayton has been engaged to ride Ornament in all his important Western en ¬ gagements He rode the colt in the East last fall and gave excellent satisfaction
