THE MAZARIN NAZARENE KILLING NEW ORLEANS LA Dec 21 The first coup of the present racing season was worked suc such ¬ cessfully easefully in the fourth race yesterday when Mazarin Mandarin won in a hand gallop and his owners Bennington Kensington Gardner and other Chicago at ¬ tachments cachets cleaned up 30000 or so As good as 10 to 1 was to be had against the Farandole Farad gelding and he was backed to 2 to 1 at post time The odds were based largely upon his last race at Nashville where he hurt himself so severely that no one would take a chance on buying him and the circumstance that while at exercise on Saturday he ran away two miles with a stout boy up The fact that he was ready was kept quiet and good commissions were placed in New York Chicago Cincinnati and Buffalo In the local ring 700 was placed the bulk of it at 10 to 1 For the whole amount wagered an average price of 8 to 1 was secured
