ST LOUIS HOUSE GOSSIP GOSSIPDiscussing Discussing the big meeting which begins at St Louis next Saturday the Kepublic Republic says There will bo surplus of horses at the Fair Grounds the coming season Every available stall has been taken and President Aull All does not know what to do with some of the new ar ¬ rivals Over 200 new stalls were put up in the old carriage hall and every one of them is now filled James Arthur with Fervor and Scottish Grit W W Darden Arden with Trombone Leo Planter The Brewer and High Born Lady Tom Hums with Helen Wren and Uncle Jim and W D Sippy Snippy with Assignee Whirlaway Whirl and Merry Monarch are quartered there The stable yard was filled a week ago Eugene Leighs Sleighs stable arrived from Cincinnati yesterday Ben Leigh has charge of the string which includes the fast 2yearold filly Satin Slipper Jockey A Thompson came over to ride for the stable Thompson had one of his legs cut off by a Chi ¬ cago cargo electric car last spring and now rides with a wooden substitute substituteJockey substitute Jockey John Gardner came over with the Cincinnati contingent It is probable that he will ride for J Huffman Gardner is a clever rider He rode for the Kendall Stable three years ago and was here with Eugene Leigh two years ago agoWill gorilla Will Darden Arden has a nice colt in Leo Planter a finelooking interlocking big bay by Leonatus Lents Plantress Planters the dam of Pioneer Leo Planter won two creditable races at Memphis and will bo a starter in several events at the Fair Grounds GroundsDarden Grounds Darden Arden also has a full sister to the speedy Libertine that is promising She is a large bay with plenty of speed Mr Darden Arden intends to save her for one of tho thou early 2yearold stakes Another promising horse in the Darden Arden stable is a 3yearold brother to the famous Algol This colt is still a maiden having never been started He was sick all last year He is a bay in color Algol is a chestnut I think Brewer Schorr Scorer has the best race horse in America at a mile or under in Algol the 4yearold son of Top Gallant said Frank Leigh yesterday His turn of speed is simply marvelous and if he dont don't win the Metropolitan at Morris Park today I will be greatly disap diaper ¬ pointed I thought I had a pretty fast horse in HSTobaccobut Algol gave him a ton of weight and made him look like a selling plater platter Macy Marcy is a pretty handy horse but Algol can lose him I would sooner have the Top Gallant horse than any other two performers in the Schorr Scorer stable not even excepting Lieber Libber Karl Timemaker Tidemark or Presbyterian
