GOSSIP OF THE TURF At Newmarket Newark England Tuesday of last week Richard Crokers Croakers 2yearold colt Knickerbocker Knickerbockers won the Exning Ending Plate of 500 sovereigns 2500 over a fivefurlongs course beating twelve other starters very easily A cablegram says of the affair The victory of Knickerbocker Knickerbockers had quite a sentimental interest for the American party for the reason that the colt is one of Mr Crokers Croakers own breeding being by Dobbins Flirt by Sailor Prince dam Lady by Pizzaro Pizza Both these horses were owned and raced by Mr Croker Crocker in America Great things were expected of Dobbins when he was sent here with the rest of the string but he weut wet amiss and was re ¬ tired to the stud Mr Croker Crocker making him the premier stallion of a small but select breed ¬ ing King establishment He was placed in training again this spring but as yet has not given any great encouragement that he will get back to his best form Knickerbocker Knickerbockers is a sturdy look ¬ ing King colt and may show to even better advantage later on The executive committee of the Washington Park Club met Saturday night and admitted Edward Corrigans Corrigan entries When they were received by Secretary Howard they were post ¬ marked May 4 instead of May 3 the day desig design ¬ nated mated for the closing of the stakes It was plain however by the time of their arrival here that they must have been mailed in San Fran ¬ cisco on the evening of May 3 It was deemed best to secure a ruling On the matter and there ¬ fore the entries were held in abeyance until such a ruling could be had The committee held that there was satisfactory evidence that the entries had been dropped in the mail box at San Francisco on the evening of May 3 and that they were valid and should be accepted This action swells the Washington Park totals to 837 837Sardonic Sardonic a very good filly by Morello Marcello Sar Sara ¬ donyx onyx is by this action added to the American Derby Mr Corrigans Corrigan other horses distributed among the various stakes are Geyser Joe Ull Hull man Wont Dance Truth Milt Young Frank Ireland Carsine Arsine Tuthill Truthfully and Chimura Chimera Jockey W Martin does not entertain a very favorable opinion of Lieber Libber Karl He is credited with saying Plaudit can beat Lieber Libber Karl at any distance Lieber Libber Karl is the worst gaited horse I ever rode Instead of taking long easy strides he pounds the track like a pile driver and seems to strain himself at every jump I dont don't think that Lieber Libber Karl is as good as he was at Memphis but Plaudit could have beaten him any way wayAt way At Louisville Monday of last week an attempt was made to sell at public auction the Leonatus Lents stud yearlings seventeen in number the get of Lissak Lisa and Bubbler but there was no money in sight and Colonel Chinn Chin becoming disgusted declared the sale off and announced that he would train and race the eleven 2yearolds of his lot mostly the get of Bubbler and send the seven yearlings by Lissak Lisa east to be sold The 2yearolds will be shipped to Latonia Antonia
