HARLEM RACING Harlems Harems start for its second week was made under the most favorable conditions as to track weather and crowd Of the 61 starters in the six races of the day no horse carried any ¬ thing like his weight for age It seems as if racetrack managers nowadays had got into their heads the idea that the scale of weights is wrong notwithstanding the fact that it has been framed by the best intellects known to the turf Adverse criticism of racing programs of the present pass in one ear and out theother tether as far as racibg racing officials go and these gentlemen seem determined to ignore the well determined fact that racing contests are bettered when horses carry high weights A premium is today put upon the inferior animal bred for speed alone and his bantam jockey whose life is con ¬ stantly scantly in danger Men and not boys should ride racehorses and a handicap where the top weight is 108 pounds and this carried by a six yearold earl horse is a sorry affair There were nineteen regular and two field bookmakers bookmakersScrambled bookmakers Scrambled Eggs is the expression used by b bstable stable stable lads to describe the position of the torses torsos as they stand at the post as did they in Rie Brie first race yesterday This way and that were their heads and at the several breakaways mostly caused by Fardel Fade Vincennes Incenses and Andes Rio Chico Chic ran the farthest Once Jockey Joes Jones rider Winkfield Infield was on the ground Mr Dwyer kept his temper and the start was fairly good Rio Chico Chic first to break was quickly outrun by Andes and Nilmah Anima the first named winning all the way At his last start he was heavily backed but was left at the post Into the home ¬ stretch Nilmah Anima carrying Pat Dunnes Dunes colors although owned by F R Hamlin Haling was lengths better than Rio Chico Chic just behind which horse ran Jockey Joe At the finish Ellis by hard work got place honors for Rio Chico Chic although Skeets Skeet Martin was on Nilmah Anima Well up were Jockey Joe and Autiquary Antiquary Harry Nutter Mutter ran a fair race raceAlvarado tracheal Alvarado Allargando II on the strength of his last few races was thought to have one chance in thirty of winning and his price stayed way up yon ¬ der deer until near post time when a vigorous on ¬ slaught slaughter from the Califprnia California contingent sent the odds down to 15 to 1 Uarda Guardia had always been a hot favorite She got off well as did the others but Innendo Innuendo headed her at the first turn where Alvarado Allargando took third position Owner Murphy had given H Martin orders to lay off with Uarda Guardia and the favorite was dropped back so that at the head of the straight the onlookers thought an accident had befallen her Inuendo Innuendo ran in the lead to the last eighth where he folded his tent and Alvarado Allargando passed him with seemingly nothing to beat but Prosecutor but at the final sixteenth along came Skeets Skeet with Uarda Guardia and split the pair Alvarado Allargando however winning in a drive Prince Blazes last at the first turn ran a good race raceFair racecar Fair Deceiver led for a short distance in the third race then the favorite Good Friend passed on and not again headed taking the shore road won well whipped out from Locust Blossom second The finish for third money was a hot one engaged in by Abina Sabina who was t h at the last quarter and was running fongly fondly at the final sixteenth Nivoce Invoice Bara Basra taria aria Nannie Nannies Davis and Apple Jack the latter cashing cashingFor cashing For the handicap the What Next party said We have a cinch on Fervor as at New Orleans there was nothing to it and many of the smart ones around the track took the tip after the betting showed that the handicappers thought Fervor would put it on Found For Huff ¬ mans filly opening at 8 to 5 jumped to 12 to 5 while Fervor always staid at 7 to 5 At the start Satsuma was on the extreme outside and slightly behind the others and so remained until the half mile ground had heen hen passed when he took third position an open length be ¬ hind Fervor Found had up to this point led the favorite and so continued to do to the last eighth where she quit Here Satsuma looked to be a factor in the race J McDonald having taken him in close to the rails at the turn After the race there was some talk that when Satsuma tried to pass Found that McNickle Canticle pulled the latter across and stopped Rowells Rowels horse If this was so it might be argued Sat ¬ suma summa had no business in there However to say that a foul occurred one must be hypercriti hypercritical ¬ cal With Found and Satsuma done Fervor money looked good when from the rear came Skeets Skeet Martin on What Next He had rid ¬ den a waiting race and with plenty left his horse ran home an easy winner Pete Kitchen stayed in company about fiveeighths firefights of a mile Fervor second beat Found several lengths lengthsHero lengthier Hero Jr delaying the start finally shot out in front only to soon drop entirely out of the race and finish absolutely Mazie Maze V took the lead into the straight closely followed by Cam ¬ brian and Survivor The pair last named were racing alongside at the last eight where Cam ¬ brian quit to nothing and Survivor walked home thus scoring for Skeets Skeet Martin three wins in succession H Martin also ran third with Nilmah Anima and second with Uarda Guardia Doremus Dorms and Volandies Villainies had a great finish for place the four pounds overweight telling on Scoggans Slogans colt and placing him third Rosa Masso Mass was going strongly at the finish finishJ finish J Reiff Riff wound up the day by a sensational win He rode Inconstancy splendidly lying in fourth position up the back stretch where Lew Blew Hopper led from Lady Ellerslie Wellesley with St Al fonses onsets D close up third Around the upper turn Little Reiff Riff cut through in the second position and running easily Inconstancy caught and passed the favorite at the end of the betting ring and galloped home a winner Lew Blew Hopper just beat St Alfonses Alfonso D for third money the pair being lengths behind Lady Ellerslie Wellesley and not very far away Croesus Cress and Jack of Hearts were abreast and whipping H Martin was posted in the betting ring as the jockey of Lady Ellorslie Celosia but midway the time allotted for speculation Sweeney Serenely announced put Everett on Lady Ellerslie Wellesley The odds about Licalzis Localism filly then jumped from 1 to 3 up to 2 to 5 It was rumored that the Iowa plunger won largely over Inconstancy but plenty of 25 to 1 was to be seen on the boards after the race raceAfter acetate After much talk and considerable thinking W H May Son finally parted with their good Albert Hoo Homo Doo Dodo filly Jinks Jamet Janet McCor McCoy mick became her owner yesterday The price paid Mr McCormick refused to say but insinu insinuate ¬ ated acted that it
