MONTANA RACING Secretary E C Hopper of the Latonia Antonia Jockey Club and American Turf Congress who was presiding judge on the Montana racing circuit this summer is home again from the far wes Secretary Hopper came away before the meet ¬ ing King at Anaconda Mont closed to get things arranged for the fall meeting at Latouia Latvia which opens on October 1 The meeting at Anaconda will wind up racing in Montana for the summer and nearly all the stables that do not go to Frisco will come east to race In speaking of the sport of Kings in Montana this season Mr Hopper said the meetings held at Butte City and Anaconda were the greatest ever given in that part of the country and were successful in every respect There were no bookmakers in line at any of the tracks mutual machines be ¬ ing King the only system of betting These machines are under the supervision of Lew Blew Hopper a brother to Secretary Hopper and he will remain out west until the meeting at Anaconda comes to an end endMutual endurable Mutual machines are very popular with the racegoing racketing public in that section of the country and are much more profitable to the associa asocial ¬ tion ion than an open ring for bookmakers The sports that attend the races at Anaconda and Butte are mostly heavy plungers and it is an ordinary occurrence for one man to bet as much as 5000 in the mutuals mutual to one race alone The class of horses that raced on the Montana circuit this summer was far better than those of the previous season and there was also plenty of good jockey talent on hand handThe handheld The Montana people like to see the shortbred shortbread hordes race and nearly every day or so there would be a race on the card for the halfbreeds Alfred and they generally furnished the liveliest kind of a contest The distance for these races was threeeighths of a mile and the horses that participated in events of this kind were as a rule fast as a shot over such a short journey journeyJoe journey Joe Redmon Redman and Grit Davis were among the successful owners that raced on the circuit Redmons Edmonds horses did well throughout the meet ¬ ing King and only last Saturday ho won a big stake with his useful old campaigner Serrano SerranoMr Serrano Mr Hopper will put in his time from now un ¬ til tail October 1 looking after Latonias Platonism fall meet ¬ ing King which he hopes to make a big SUCCESS C iucmnati Enquirer
